Tea Tree oil is an essential oil that comes from the leaves of a small tree called the Melaleuca Alternifolia. This tiny tree is native to Australia and has been a popular holistic remedy for treating mild bacterial infections and used as a beauty enhancement for centuries.

Mother Nature always has it covered don’t she?

Tea tree oil has been used for centuries as a traditional medicine by the Aborigines. Uses like crushing up the leaves to extract the essential oil then inhaling the vapors to treat coughs and common colds.

That sounds dope. I might actually do that. Therapeutic.

Like a DIY Vick’s Vaporrub.

The uses for tea tree essential oil are pretty vast.

TEA TREE OIL HEALED MY ARMPIT RASH

I had a horrible rash underneath my armpits after using Dove spray antiperspirant. This isn’t to bash that product.

In fact I fucking love Dove.

I use their bar soap all the time. Religiously.

I just have really sensitive skin and something deep down inside of me knew better.

I didn’t listen to myself. Of course.

As a result I broke out into this really interesting, itchy and irritating rash. Small, little, mysterious, painful hard balls also began forming under my skin.

WTF.

Rissa

I instantly threw the antiperspirant away. I was actually to scared to use any form of deodorant at that point. My poor armpits were so fucked up. 🙁

Always one to be a huge fan of holistic remedies that Mother Earth has so cleverly provided to us mere mortals, I guess it wasn’t too random that Tea Tree Oil was one of the first things I reached for.

I don’t dilute tea tree essential oil or use a ‘carrier oil’. That’s just me. I’m familiar with the use of Tea Tree Oil and know my skin can handle direct contact.

So, I then began to gently massage about 5 drops of concentrated Tea Tree Oil onto my rashy pits and after about a day or so the itching almost completed subsided.

Rissa

The dead skin that accumulated from the rash began to dry up and flake off.

Redness and inflammation gone.

Little tiny mysterious pit bumps began to shrink.

Witchcraft?

Nah homie.

Terpene hydrocarbons.

TEA TREE OIL HAS ACTIVE INGREDIENTS KNOWN FOR KILLING BACTERIA AND REDUCING INFLAMMATION.

Tea Tree Oil’s primary active ingredients are terpene hydrocarbons, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. (terpinen-4-ol)

These natural ingredients have shown to increase the activity of white blood cells which help to fight germs and other foreign bacteria.

Again, the uses for tea tree essential oil are fucking vast.

I’m talking about tea tree oil is great for making shampoos, skin treatments, skin products, it’s good for hair, for scalp treatments, nails, acne, bug bites, minor cuts and scrape and you can even use it as a mouthwash.

My mind is blown. Like, I knew this oil could do a lot but holy shit.

1.TEA TREE OIL CAN BE USED AS A NATURAL DEODORANT

Tea tree oil’s antibacterial effects can help control the underarm odor that happens after we sweat.

A lot of people are under the common misconception that our sweat is what smells. Nope.

Our sweat typically doesn’t smell. When the bacteria that’s chillin on our skin comes into contact with our sweat, some sort of evil magic generates and we begin to smell. Bad.

I sweat sooooo much. Like a lot. So I’ve always needed something strong to help me out. I’ve been using tea tree oil as a deodorant for about a month now and I’m pleasantly surprised at how well it’s been working not to mention, with my super simple recipe, I love how aromatic it smells.

RISSA’S ALL NATURAL DEODORANT:

  • LEMON JUICE
  • TEA TREE OIL

2. TEA TREE OIL CAN HELP FIGHT ACNE

After discovering how well tea tree oil was working for my armpits I began to wonder…

“What else can I use this magical stuff for??’

I began to directly apply the oil to some of the juicy pimples that like to visit my forehead and cheeks from time to time. And man oh man lemme tell you how well it’s been working.

The natural ingredients in tea tree oil somehow dry out the pimples but moisturize the skin at the same damn time.

I have been able to get rid of some unwanted monstrous zits a lot faster than usual because tea tree oil also serves as a natural inflammatory.

3. TEA TREE OIL REDUCES SKIN INFLAMMATION

Aka Contact Dermatitis

Which is basically the red, itchy and inflamed skin that occurs after coming into contact with something that you’re allergic too.

For me it’s fresh cut grass and dirty dogs.

Something about the oil on their skin. It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t stop me from suffocating dogs with my love. I love dogs so much.

Thank god for tea tree oil.

4. TEA TREE OIL CAN BE USED AS AN ANTISEPTIC FOR CUTS AND SCRAPES

Mother Nature’s Neosporin.

Because of tea tree oil’s primary active ingredients (terpene hydrocarbons, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. (terpinen-4-ol)) it can be used to treat, heal and disinfect minor cuts and scrapes

For this type of use, and especially for small children with a low pain tolerance, dilute the tea tree oil pior to application.

Unless pain is your thing. Don’t let me stop you from living.

ALL NATURAL ANTISEPTIC RECIPE

  • Drop(s) of tea tree oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Apply small amount onto cut/scrape/abrasion
  • Cover with a bandaid

5. TEA TREE OIL CAN BE USED AS AN INSECT REPELLENT

Which is nice because I personally can’t stand the smell of store bought insect repellent creams, sprays, candles etc.

There have been studies showing that after applying tea tree oil to cows, 2 hours later there was a 61% decrease in flies compared to the cows that were not treated with tea tree essential oil.

Side story: Once time while visiting my family in Mexico I had a lot of concerning bug bites all over my legs that I could not stop scratching.

They began to bruise.

It was pretty gnarly.

One of my uncles suggested I rub beer and lemon all over my legs.

Moral of the story.

DO NOT rub beer and lemon all over your legs to keep bugs from biting you.

That is all.

6. USE TEA TREE OIL AS AN INGREDIENT FOR A YOGA MAT CLEANER

I personally was very happy to come across this one because I do a lot of yoga.

I sweat A LOT on my yoga mat and the thought has crossed my mind a few times on how sanitary it can be to roll all that gross shit back up after class to sit there, fester and ferment.

Just to sit in it all over again next time.

Again, tea tree oil has an amazing benefit of killing bacteria such as yoga mat sweat funk.

Here’s a fun little recipe I ran across to keep your yoga mat aromatic and sterile.

YOGA MAT CLEANER

  • Water
  • Witch Hazel
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Lavender Oil
  • Lemon

THE USES FOR TEA TREE ESSENTIAL OIL ARE ENDLESS

It’s an ingredient that can be used in shampoos, skin care, hand sanitizer, all purpose cleaner for your home…

You can find tea tree oil at CVS, Target, Walmart or anywhere health products are sold.
